Both parks, Kickapoo and Kennekuk, have many well-maintained hiking trails. In the Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area there are 35 miles of more primitive trails, used by hikers and horseback riders in the summer, and cross-country skiers in the winter. There are even opportunities for backpackers to walk a couple of miles into Pondside Campground, accessible only on foot. It is located in the middle of the Fish and Wildlife Area.
