Horseshoe Bottom Nature Preserve

An oxbow lake lying in an old river channel forms the centerpiece of this unusual area that is unlike any other Nature Preserve in Illinois. Bordered on the west by the Middle Fork River, its 88 acres include floodplain forest, hill prairies and steep forested bluffs. The spring-fed slough supports nesting wood ducks and other waterfowl during the spring.
