Migratory waterfowl are also present in the area, attracted by the river and the numerous strip-mine ponds in Kickapoo State Park. Recently the population of Giant Canada geese has become permanent and abundant.
Upland game hunting is permitted in parts of Kennekuk and Kickapoo Parks, and throughout the Fish and Wildlife Area. Normal seasons and bag limits apply. Besides deer, rabbits, doves, quail, woodcock, and pheasants, there are opportunities to hunt wild turkeys, which were re-introduced to the area during the 1980's. Night hunting with rifles for coyote, opossum, raccoon and skunk is also permitted. Contact the park superintendents for more information.
