Kennekuk County Park

The Vermilion County Conservation District operates this 2900-acre park on the east side of the river, accessible from exit 210 off I-74, then proceeding north on county road 1300E several miles past the east entrance to Kickapoo State Park. The museum displays in the visitors' center interpret the valley's natural and archaeological history. In addition to the usual picnic areas and playgrounds there are many hiking trails to such places as Lookout Point and Horseshoe Bottom and Windfall Prairie Nature Preserves. Boat rentals are available at 270-acre Lake Mingo. The park also features a 19th-century church, store and one-room schoolhouse. For details contact park headquarters at 217 442 1691.
