Mammals

Beavers, otters and mink are a few of the many species of mammals that inhabit the banks of the Middle Fork of the Vermilion. Their signs are everywhere, reminding humans that we share this area with those who make their home there. Game animals include deer, rabbits, squirrels and raccoons, which are pursued by coyotes and foxes as well as human hunters who substitute for the wolves that were exterminated long ago.
