Reptiles and Amphibians

The eastern box turtle is commonly seen along the miles of trails that wind through the river valley. Altogether, eight species of turtles have been found in the area, along with 13 species of snakes and 9 species of salamanders, including the endangered silvery salamander that inhabits Middle Fork Woods Nature Preserve. Eight species of frogs and two kinds of toads add to the diversity of reptiles and amphibians that live along the river.
